At 7.30AM, we’ll pick you up at your hotel or home stay around Senaru Village, then escort you into the Sasak’s traditional village to explore the life of the Sasak people. The traditional Sasak Village is located on the hillside under the shadows of the majestic Mount Rinjani and is only 50m from the Mount Rinjani National Park Lodge. There are 20 families inhabiting the village. The Sasak people are cultural guardians of Mount Rinjani and its surrounding natural environment, safeguarding its spiritual value. We will spend about 1 hour in their traditional village, giving you the opportunities to experience the villagers’ daily life, visit their unique-designed thatched houses which are made from materials gathered from their surrounding (you would hardly find nails or metal support in their structures!) and gardens of fruits and spices.
We’ll continue our trip to Sendang Gila and Tiu Kelep waterfalls which are 30 minutes walk from Senaru Sasak Village. Sendang Gila Waterfall is 600m above sea level and is a 2-tiered waterfall, the highest being 25m and lowest 15m. Tiu Kelep Waterfall is the more popular of the waterfalls, with a towering height of 40m and a large deep pool at the bottom. Its large pool makes it a popular local spot for swimming. These waterfalls are believed by the locals to continue magic, capable of curing diseases and restoring one’s youthful looks! As we will be at the waterfalls for about 2 hours, take this chance to have a dip in the refreshing waters.
After a rejuvenating swim at the amazing waterfalls, we will track 1.5hrs to the serene Bayan rice field (Bangket Bayan), where the local villager still practice subsistence farming using traditional ploughing methods that use buffaloes. Along the way, we will cross small water streams & river and have a bit of an uphill trek towards the rice field. Upon arriving at rice field, we will take an hour-long rest at small lodge which is surrounded by rice field. Situated 600m above sea level, you get to enjoy the panoramic view of this traditional rice field and surroundings while eating biscuits or snacks. You might spot some farmers working their field.
Once we finish our break, we continue our walking trail for 1.5hrs, reaching our trail end at the old mosque Masjid Kuno Bayan in the Bayan village. You are allowed to explore the mosque for about half hour. Built in the 17th century, this is the first mosque on Lombok Island. It is shaped similarly with the surrounding houses, made out of bamboo, stone and clay with jackfruit wood as the 4 main support pillars. It occupies a relatively small area of 81m2.
Our walking experience ends when our transport will pick you up at the old mosque and transfers you back to your hotel at around 3pm.
