Enjoy an overnight homestay in Cai Be village. Cai Be is a rural riverside town that is home to Cai Be floating market, a small but vibrant local market where the community trades their produce. The village has a dock where visitors can embark to visit the nearby islands where you can find an abundant fruit plantations and gardens, demonstrating the richness of these fertile land. Located in Ben Tre, the Kingdom of Coconut, don’t be surprised to find plenty of water coconut trees the line the side of canals and factories that produce sweet delights and other household products made from the coconut, as you explore the areas around Cai Be village.
Cai Be is about 120km from Ho Chi Minh City. Travel time by road from Ho Chi Minh to Cai Be is about 2 to 2.5 hours.
Day 1: Saigon – My Tho – Ben Tre – Cai Be Homestay (L/D)
At 8.00AM, we will pick you up from your hotel / place of stay within Ho Chi Minh City centre for a smooth drive on the Saigon – Trung Luong freeway and over Rach Mieu suspension bridge in My Tho to Ben Tre province. homeland of the Coconuts. From Ben Tre town, the boat will cruise along the Tien river (a branch of the Mekong) and stop off at various local work places to give you an idea of how the local economy works. Amongst the factories, you will found yourself at a coconut processing workshop, where you can sample fresh coconut and see how every single part of this versatile nut is turned into food.
The boat will then stop at a quiet village where you can have a short walk to experience real Delta village life. From there, we take a horse-drawn carriage and travel into the forest where you can visit fruit orchards before stopping at a riverside restaurant for a delicious and filling lunch, which features local specialties such as elephant-ear fish and river shrimp. Great food that goes down well with some cold drinks or beers. Another trip to a nearby islet will bring you to an orchid garden and a small bee farm where you can enjoy honey tea, local products, and South Vietnamese folk music. We will enjoy our dinner at a local restaurant before checking in for our overnight homestay in Cai Be village.
Day 2: Cai Be Floating Market – Saigon (B/L)
After we check out, our first stop of Day 2 is the Cai Be Floating Market. It is an interesting eye-opening experience to cruise among local barges full of colourful flowers, fruits and vegetables. As we make our way along the market, you can choose to stop at the local workshops situated by the river where you can see how honey, coconut candy, pop-rice, and popcorn are made. We make our way to a nearby island where a delicious lunch will be served under the shade of local orchards.
After lunch, the rowing boat will take you deeper into the countryside via smaller canals to enjoy some peaceful time and the natural beauty of the Mekong Delta. On the canal, you get to see traditional houses made of wood and palm tree leaves and local farmers working by the waterways. You can have the opportunity to make contact with them and see how they catch fish or pick up fruits using their ancestral ways in Mekong Delta. Depending on the season, you can also enjoy some fruits freshly plucked from their garden when listening to the traditional music.
The trip ends when we return to your hotel / place of stay in Ho Chi Minh City centre at around 4:30 pm.
